Throughout this LibGuide, you will see the term "assistive technology" used.
Assistive Technology has traditionally been developed for people with disabilities, the applicability of much of this technology has been found to be useful to almost all of us at some point throughout our lives. These educational apps are here to support your learning, whether or not you have a documented disability. It is important to look for educational apps that support your individualized learning needs, which is why you will see this term used as well.
There are many resources available to support you during your college career. Students who have access to these tools and resources prior to starting classes, feel more prepared for their classes, the work, and tasks required of them in a college setting. Exploring these technology tools and finding what works for you can increase your confidence and provide a positive outlook on your college career.
Educational apps and supports are all around us! Many of the tools available are free or cost very little to use. On the following pages are lists of apps you may find useful when completing various tasks both in or out of school. Many of these tools may help you complete tasks more quickly, easily, or independently. Tools are broken down into sub-categories such as Reading, Writing, or Notetaking, for example. All apps and programs on the following pages are free or have in-app purchases associated.
Services for students with documented disabilities may be eligible for assistive technology specifically targeted to accommodate the functional limitations associated with their disability.
If you have a disability and would like to request accommodations or assistive technology to support your access to learning at FVCC, please contact our Disability Support Services Coordinator, Melissa Sommer, or schedule an appointment by calling 406-756-3880.
